ST. LOUIS – September 29, 2017
LUZCO Technologies, a woman and minority-owned engineering project management firm, has received Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) / Women Business Enterprise (WBE) Certification from Business Diversity Development (BDD), which certifies eligible businesses on behalf the City of St. Louis and St. Louis Lambert International Airport. LUZCO offers project management, engineering design and transmission and distribution engineering services. Its founder and President Lusnail Haberberger, P.E., PMP, is a Venezuelan-American woman and an electrical engineer with more than a decade of experience overseeing complex projects, mostly focused on the utility industry.
“St. Louis minority and women-owned businesses make significant contributions to our region’s economy and its communities,” Haberberger said. “Programs like these show the City understands the benefits of these companies and values the diversity they bring.”
Luzco was one of more than 10 businesses to receive certification from BDD as part of the City’s diversity program in September. BDD is responsible for administering programs to encourage the fullest possible growth and development of minority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses and disadvantaged businesses in St. Louis.
Certification brings benefits. It can raise a firm’s marketing exposure through the City of St. Louis’ online directory of certified businesses. Also, certified firms are provided with training seminars to promote professional development and increase their competitiveness on City contracts.
BDD requires companies to be at least 51 percent owned by a woman and/or minority business owner. In many ways, BDD programs began more than a decade ago with a 1997 proclamation by then Mayor Clarence Harmon supporting the City’s dedication to supporting women and minority-owned businesses. Mayor Francis Slay extended the program in 2013.
LUZCO launched earlier this year and has already added several team members and projects. “I believe this certification will open doors for LUZCO, but it is our diverse talent, exceptional skill and workplace culture that will allow us to deliver excellent service and continue to grow,” Haberberger said.
