Tom McAllister joined LUZCO as the Lead Transmission Engineer with a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and more than 18 years of experience in transmission line design. In 2024, he was promoted to the position of Director of Transmission & Distribution Line Engineering. Tom has been involved in a wide variety of projects centered around transmission line design, ranging from 345 kV (extra high voltage) to 12 kV (distribution) and OPGW installation. He has supported many projects in varying roles, including lead transmission line engineer, project engineer and transmission line design engineer with experience in line rebuilds, line re-conductors, line upgrades, structure design and placement for steel pole, wood pole, and concrete pole lines, and in foundation design, riser structure design, switch structure design, temporary by-pass line design, cell antennae equipment design, substation tie lines design, and route selection studies. Furthermore, Tom has experience with creating and developing specifications, standards, and design criteria for clients and has worked on projects covering a diverse range of regions and clients, such as Ameren, CMP, NYSEG, Avangrid, Oncor, Xcel Energy, PECO, NPPD, AEP, Progress Energy, Baltimore Gas and Electric, Southern California Edison, Northeast Utilities Service Co., Sunflower Electric Power Corp., PPL, MEAG Power, and Seattle City Light.
